SIGHTSEEING

BERLIN IS GERMANYS LARGEST CITY WITH A POPULATION OF 3,4 MILLION PEOPLE. AROUND ONE THIRD OF THE CITYS TERRITORY IS COMPOSED OF FORESTS, PARKS, GARDENS, RIVERS AND LAKES.

After the German reunification in 1990 the city meanwhile has regained its status as the capital of all Germany hosting 147 foreign embassies. Berlin is a world city of culture, politics, media, and science and is one of the most visited tourist and congress destinations in the European Union with significant industries including IT, pharmaceuticals, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, optoelectronics, traffic engineering and renewable energy. Berlin’s four universities are famous far beyond the city borders with more than 139,000 young people studying here. Berlin is home to 153 museums, 420 art galleries, 50 theatres, 3 major opera houses and is recognised for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife and a high quality of living.

Few cities have seen as many changes over recent years as Berlin. The two separate entities that existed before the Wall came down have become one again.

There's hardly a trace left of the former east-west division. The new architecture on Potsdamer Platz and in the government quarter forms a fascinating contrast to the late 19th century buildings of Charlottenburg. One minute you're on an elegant boulevard, the next you’re in one of the city's more alternative neighborhoods. But the city is not only renowned for its architectural monuments; it also has museums, green oases and nightlife galore.
